Depending on your contract you may receive a car but if not here are some helpful ways to get around. Walking is always your best option. Buses taxis and trains are also other ways of getting around. Let us explore the possibilities
Buses may be one of your cheapest options of getting around. The problem is most buses in Europe are overcrowded. Depending on how big the city is you are in will determine whether or not this is a good option. I do suggest you go with someone who can speak the language and knows where you want to go the first couple of times. The worst thing you would want to do is be on a bus and dont know what stop to get off and can not ask anyone.

Taxis are the probably the easiest way to get around if you do not have your own transportation. They get you to where you need to be in a hurry and you have the luxury of privacy. The best suggestion is to have someone write down your destination in the language and get a hotel or local business card that is close to your home so you can have an easier ride on the way back.

The UGLY of using taxis. Some are drivers are not honest. The drivers will take the longer route to get an extra dollar if they can get away with it. Taxis in Europe have day and night rates. When using the night rates you are charged more for the service. Depending on the country you are in you may have to call a taxi to come get you for a cheaper rate although there are 20 cabs in front of you and vice versa in other countries. Each country is different.
Trains are the same as buses. Depending on the size of the city will determine whether or not this is an option. But I do suggest you go with someone who knows the first couple of times.
Walking is by far the best option. Because gas prices are way more expensive in Europe than in America, it may be best to get some good exercise. Also, in Europe there are more cars than parking spaces. While the locals are looking for parking spaces you are already at the destination doing business. I know you don't want to here this but it is free to walk. So by far, this is the best option if your body is up to it.
